I have visited a church in Santa Cruz, CA that I enjoy, mostly because they make the effort to be relevant, in their organization, their services, and their 'after' services. The type of church? Emergent.
They basically tell religion to take a hike and re-introduce the idea of being in a mission-oriented community of fellow believers in Christ Jesus. It's no longer about which denomination you belong to or grew up in. It's more about do you have a personal faith, a personally well-informed faith through personal and group Bible study, and a personal investment in growing your faith, and are you willing to pursue this as a community of like-minded people?
If you get a chance, visit and emergent church and see for yourself. If you're in Santa Cruz, visit
Vintage Faith Church. You'll be glad you did.
