When the Space Shuttle Endeavour had its fly over in the Bay Area on September 21, 2012, I took the opportunity to walk out to the
Baylands Nature Center to witness the event. The parking lots were filled with cars, and many onlookers awaited the big moment. As the 747 carrier approached, a toddler cried out, "There it is! It's in the sky! It's the space shuttle!" And sure enough, approaching from the north over the Dumbarton Bridge came the space shuttle with the F-18 Hornet fighter jet escort.
